Thierry Henry wants Arsenal summer target to live up to his goalscoring standards away from the club next season
Following Arsenal’s 1-0 loss in Portugal, manager Thierry Henry turned his attention to Victor Osimhen, the club’s long-rumoured striker target.
The former Arsenal striker took to social media to express his frustration at Mikel Arteta’s team’s late loss to Porto.
Despite a poor showing on Wednesday, there was a good chance of a comeback, until Galeno scored at the end of the first half, leaving Arsenal trailing 1-0 at half-time in the second half. The North London outfit did not threaten to score, with only one shot on target against Porto.
For CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage, Henry took the opportunity to talk about Napoli’s plans for striker Viktor Osimhen, who has been heavily linked with a transfer to Arsenal. Osimhen scored the home team’s goal in Napoli’s 1-1 win over Barcelona.
After watching Osimhen’s performances, Henry believes the £100m-rated striker should look for new opportunities, with speculation linking him with a move to the top-tier, possibly to Arsenal.
“How can he be?” Henry asked. “He did it last year. He won African Player of the Year. I’d love to see him now. What do you do in the Premier League?
No matter where you’re going, PSG or Prem, I want him to keep it up year after year.
Osimhen’s goal against Barcelona showed his quality, but Henry’s comments suggest he wants the striker to show consistency in another league, which could be in line with Arsenal’s ambitions. Even though Arsenal lost at home to Porto last night, it’s unclear whether Arteta’s immediate worries are about finding a new striker or the tactical problems they faced against the visitors.
