Police in Joliet, Illinois have arrested a man and woman after they were found unconscious in their hotel room with drugs after allegedly leaving their 5 year old child alone in the room.
Best Western, 4380 Enterprise Drive, Joliet Police Department Joliet Police responded to a call of a crying child in a guest room Monday night at approximately 9:00 p.m.
Hotel staff members were able to enter the room before police arrived and were met by a five year old girl who reported that her mother and father had gone into the bathroom and were not coming out. The girl was then taken to the hotel lobby to wait for the police.
Kody Campbell, 32, and Samantha McCaughn, 27, were found unresponsive on the bathroom floor. Joliet fire department responded and treated the victims.
In the bathroom, officers found heroin and fentanyl. They also found that McCaughn and Campbell were both in possession of methamphetamines. Campbell was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, while McCaughn was transferred to the hospital. The baby was also hospitalized for a check-up. The officers also noted that the guest room’s living conditions were extremely poor.
Campbell was arrested and McCaughn was taken to the hospital for processing.
The child was then placed in the custody of the department of child and family services and eventually adopted by another family member.
Campbell was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, while McCaughn was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child and released on a summons to appear.
