The Doha-Dublin Qatar Airways flight experienced turbulence on Sunday, resulting in 12 passengers suffering minor injuries.
Emergency services, including Dublin Airport Police and Dublin Fire Brigade, responded to the flight, which landed shortly before 1pm.
Dublin Airport said in a statement that 6 passengers and 6 crew members were hurt in the incident, 8 of whom were taken to hospital after being evaluated. “Qatar Airways flight QR017 encountered some turbulence while over Turkey,” the statement read.
They are providing assistance to passengers and staff, and that operations are not affected. The airport said that the plane’s return flight, QR018, to Doha is scheduled to take off as planned, but that the flight will be delayed.
A Qatar Airways spokesperson told that the flight landed in Dublin without incident, but that a handful of passengers and crew members suffered minor injuries during the flight and are currently receiving treatment.
We are currently conducting an internal inquiry into the matter,” the release read. “Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all our passengers and crew members.”
The incident comes just a few days after 104 passengers suffered injuries and a man suffering from a heart condition died after a Singapore Airlines flight hit heavy turbulence.
London to Singapore flight SQ321 was flying on Tuesday at an altitude of 37,000 ft when the aircraft experienced a sharp nose dive before descending several hundred feet. Flight tracking data shows that the aircraft dipped several times and then rose for approximately one minute before descending again.
